ICDL INTRODUCED TO KIGALI INDEPENDENT UNIVERSITY ULK AND ULK POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE STUDENTS

On 19th October 2023, the ICDL team at Kigali Independent University and ULK Polytechnic Institute UPI had a highly productive meeting with the students. The discussion aimed at introducing ICDL programme to increase digital literacy and skills in the country.

ICDL is the digital skills standard. Over sixteen million people have joined and it boosted their skillset with a flexible certification that allows them to develop their computer skills to their own requirements.

During her presentation, Rita GASANA the ICDL Market Development Manager said that:

We are here; to make sure students have skills and are competitive on the market”

She added that ICDL programs might help the students to find jobs after joining the labour market.

The programs can help people who are looking for a job, even the ones who already have job.

In 2015, ICDL Africa Signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT) and among the deliverables, ICDL was to support in the development of a National Digital Literacy Policy in Rwanda.

Since then, ICDL Africa Office was set up in Kigali that manages the ICDL activities across Africa. Currently, ICDL Africa has set up offices around the continent. The established operators are based in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda in East Africa. In West Africa, they are represented in Benin- an office that manages the Francophone Countries. ICDL Africa is also represented in Southern Africa from offices in South Africa and another one in Zimbabwe. However, ICDL is delivered in Rwanda through a network of test centers.
